Features
Cranial crest, Beak.
Parasaurolophus walkeri is characterised by a long cranial crest. The NHM account of the genus Parasaurolophus presents sound production and recognition of other members of its species as hypotheses for crest function.
Scientific uncertainty
Size estimates must distinguish genus, species and specimen scope. Within Parasaurolophus, crest shape and size vary between individuals and species, and crest function is not settled. The illustrated crest curvature and outline are not treated as a reconstruction confirmed to match a particular specimen or growth stage of P. walkeri. Colour, soft tissues and posture in the reconstruction include inference.
