Bony frill.

Protoceratops andrewsi was a ceratopsian from Late Cretaceous Central Asia. It had a bony frill at the back of its skull.

Scientific uncertainty

Proposed frill functions and attempts to infer sex from its shape are treated as hypotheses. The illustrated frill does not establish the appearance of a particular specimen, growth stage or sex. Colour, soft tissues and posture in the reconstruction include inference.
